Hi everyone, I hope you are staying safe and healthy wherever you are.

I am sharing a new virtual program that my colleague and I are starting this tomorrow (April 23rd, 2020). As new co-chairs of the Global Practice Network at Boston Society for Architecture, we are hosting the first meeting with the topic of the pandemic.

For the meeting, we will have:
A guest speaker, Dr. Elvis Garcia, who is teaching the timely subject of epidemic and public health ; Andrea Panizzo, Co-Founder of EVA Studio based in UK, and a diverse panel of practitioners who are originally from US, Japan, China, South Korea, Thailand, Bangladesh, Iran, Ghana, Algeria, Italy, Spain, and Brazil.

The situations at hospitals are heartbreaking. Many healthcare design experts in Boston have actively been meeting and discussing the ways of converting healthcare and non-healthcare buildings and providing temporary facilities to treat infected patients. But for most of us, the best thing we can do is to stay put - stay home and work from home, running the daily lives as normally as we could.
The question is, what are we learning? What can we do as architects, meaning those who are not healthcare-design experts? How might this influence the discourse around architecture and urban planning in the future? Is this another one of the environmental crises that architects should address, like Climate Change? I believe that every crisis is an opportunity to learn, whatever the scale it may be, and this should also be one.
Since our WFH started, I feel that we are ever more connected in a strange way. As we can still use our brain, computer, and the internet during the quarantine, I think that the virtual program is a good way to kick off the Global Practice Network meeting. To me, discussing is better than not discussing, and I hope our conversations would help us make productive and well-informed contributions in whatever forms in each one's expertise in the future.

At the Global Practice Network, we want to invite a variety of practitioners across disciplines and geographies to share knowledge, exchange thoughts, ideas, and experiences, and showcase various projects. So, if you got something to share on this platform, please contact me. We want the exposure to broader perspective and diverse voices, not only from the communities of the Greater Boston area but also from other parts of the world. 皆さん、お元気ですか。医療従事者のみなさん、本当にお疲れ様です。
アメリカでは桁違いのコロナウイルス感染者が出ており、ボストンでは複数の建築事務所が一体となって、パンデミックに早急に対応できるようなシステムのリサーチやデザインのディスカッションをしています。

私は今春新たにBoston Society for Architecture (BSA) | Global Practice Network の共同議長を務めることになりまして、このパンデミックを機に建築や都市に関連したディスカッションを世界中のプラクティショナーとともに談義していくバーチャルイベントをスタートすることにいたしました。

初回のディスカッションには、ハーバード大学デザインスクールにてエピデミックとパブリックヘルスというとてもタイムリーな内容を教えているエリック・ガルシア教授のトーク、英国でEVA Studioを運営している建築家アンドレア・パニッゾさんによる現在進行中のソーシャルブリッジに関連したリサーチの紹介、そしてパネルとして様々な国籍を持つプラクティショナー１０人とともに、ヴァーチャルでディスカッションをいたします。

私たちが今できる最善のことは家で待機すること。そんな状況の中、身体的な身動きが取れなくても、現在と将来の建築／都市デザインに関わっていく私たちにもできることはたくさんあると思います。場所を問わずバーチャルで繋がれることを最大限に利用して、異なる文化圏の人たちと共に国際的な視野を共有し、理解を深めていけたらいいなと思っております。

イベントは、学びや気づきを目的とした聴衆参加型のパネルディスカションです。パネル以外の方はチャットを通して質問を送信していただく形式です。
５月に予定しています第２回目は、社会的距離が強いられている現在、身体的な距離を保ちながらどのようにソーシャルコネクション保っているか（いけるか）、人やコミュニティーとのつながりを保ち続けるための空間の仕組み、セミプライベートな空間やパブリックスペースの新たな役割、といった内容をもう少し掘り下げて（もしくは、拡張させて）ディスカッションを開催したいと考えています。EVA StudioさんとAtelier BowWowさんをお呼びする予定です。
